Last year, when the pandemic forced Writers in Baltimore Schools (WBS), founded by 2008 OSI Community Fellow Patrice Hutton, to take its annual summer camp virtual, students stepped up to the creative plate, creating the 2020 Studio Anthology.

This year, WBS is holding a fundraiser so that camp can be in-person again, with 30 Baltimore City middle and high school students attending six days of writing camp at Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland from August 9th to 14th. Those unable to attend in person will be able participate in an online track.

WBS offers literary development classes to low-income Baltimore City public school students. The program uses volunteers in the undergraduate and graduate writing programs at Johns Hopkins University to provide in-school, after-school and summer creative writing workshops. WBS has offered this six-day summer camp for students since 2012.
