WYPR’s On the Record is currently featuring interviews with the 2018 cohort of OSI-Baltimore Community Fellows. Last week, Sheilah Kast spoke to Eric Fishel, whose project, Baltimore Foodparks, will convert vacant lots into mixed use parks using native edible plants for both human and bid communities.  Listen here.

This week, Kast profiled Shelley Halstead and Fred Watkins. Shelley’s project, Black Women Build Baltimore will teach black women carpentry skills as the rehab houses in the Upton neighborhood, helping participants build both careers and wealth through homeownership. Fred’s project, Lil’ Laughs, will use entertainment as a way to teach confidence-building techniques as well as de-escalation skills. Listen to both here.
